Stretch goal announcement!
almost 3 years ago – Tue, Jun 08, 2021 at 03:32:58 PM

Darling Disasters: We still have two weeks left until the end of this campaign, and we've just reached the $16,000 mark, which is huge! Surpassing our campaign goal means we can think even bigger about this project—making the records and the books as beautiful as possible, hiring PR professionals to get the album out in the world, creating more art (like music videos) and paying our collaborators something closer to what they deserve. YOU are making this all possible, and we are so grateful.
We are hopeful that we can reach the $20,000 mark before the end of the campaign, and if we do, as a thank you we'll be offering two big thank yous to everyone who supports this Kickstarter, at any level:

  • Everyone gets a bonus track! We'll be able to offer you all one more song, a single that we'll release separately from (and sooner than) Our Lady of Radium
  • Backers-only Zoom show and afterparty! We've been producing our weekly livestreams on social media, where we don't get to see your faces. This show will be in Zoom, where we'll invite everyone to have cameras on (only if you want to! lurkers also welcome) and we'll play all of your requests from the Charming Disaster songbook. We are looking forward to meeting everyone's pets.

To help us reach the stretch goal, we invite you to help us spread the word about this campaign. If you know other science and history lovers, fans of extraordinary women, nuclear physics enthusiasts, or other  folks who you think would appreciate Our Lady of Radium, let them know about what we're doing! Here are a few easy ways to do that:

THANK YOU SO MUCH for being part of this project. We're so excited to share it with you.
    XO

Women in Séance
almost 3 years ago – Tue, Jun 08, 2021 at 03:31:42 PM

Darling Disasters: We continue to be floored by your support of this project! We'll be sharing a series of posts here with some background info about the songs on Our Lady of Radium, starting with one called "Darkened Room."

In 1905 in Paris, Marie and Pierre Curie attended a series of séances of the famous Italian spirit medium Eusapia Palladino, whose supposed spiritual powers intrigued many scientists and philosophers seeking knowledge about unknown forces (such as radiation). Eusapia had once been married to a stage conjurer and was known even in her own time to be a charlatan, but researchers still thought she might be producing other real supernatural phenomena, even after one investigator caught her cheating. She was a fascinating character (feel free to do your own deep dive).

We will perform “Darkened Room” on this week's Quarantine Livestream show if you'd like to hear a sneak preview!

OMG we've already reached the campaign goal NOW WHAT HAPPENS
almost 3 years ago – Tue, Jun 08, 2021 at 03:29:23 PM

WE CAN'T BELIEVE IT. We were actually looking at the campaign page yesterday when it rolled over the $12,000 mark. Which means we have already reached our goal. Wow. While we were optimistic going into this campaign, we were not prepared for this to happen so soon!!

What happens now is we can think even bigger about this project -- making the records and the books as beautiful as possible, hiring PR professionals to get the album out in the world, creating more art (like music videos) and paying our collaborators something closer to what they deserve. YOU are making this all possible, and we are so grateful.

This campaign is still very much underway, so if you know other folks who appreciate goth-folk inspired by pioneering women scientists (and who doesn't!?), please continue spreading the word.

In the meantime, stay tuned as we'll be announcing some stretch goals next week.

Thank you!! We love you!!

We are literally radiating joy

HOLY SMOKES you folks are amazing.

Darling Disasters:

We are FLOORED by your enthusiastic support of this project. We can't believe you've already brought us to 87% of our Kickstarter campaign goal in its first few days. We are overwhelmed with gratitude, and excited to already be so close to reaching our goal. THANK YOU!!!

We thought you might enjoy a peek at one of Susan Saas's early concept sketches for Our Lady of Radium (her illustrations will be featured in the art & lyrics books as well as the album cover!).

If you'd like to get to know Susan (she is DELIGHTFUL), she was recently a guest on our weekly livestream show, where she gave a hat making demonstration -- you can watch the replay here

And we invite you to watch this week's episode, which will feature special guest Dame Darcy! Tune in on  Friday May 14 at 8pm EDT on Facebook or YouTube (you'll find all the details at charmingdisaster.com/livestreams).

Once again, thank you for giving this campaign such a strong start. Our hearts are aglow.

XO
